Giles Consulting Group (GCG) is a culturally conscious performance and leadership development consultancy, grounded in well-researched theory and proven performance standards. GCG takes pride in being a valuable resource in achieving individual and team goals, and works effectively to teach skills that are essential to performance, so clients can maximize the pleasures of excellence. GCG’s philosophy is to engage individual competency and growth to strengthen personal, professional and team performance. 

 

GCG works with an international clientele of government, for-profit and non-profit companies, youth to Olympic and professional athletes and coaches, to provide a uniquely diverse breadth of skills and experiences to engage diverse issues, and integrate meaningful skills to reach impactful solutions.

Ross Flowers, Ph.D.
Founder and President

Dr. Ross Flowers is an experienced psychologist, international sport and performance psychologist, executive coach, author and speaker. As the founder and president of Giles Consulting Group, Dr. Ross Flowers has served as a mental performance coach for the San Francisco Giants, mental health provider for the 2020 NBA Championship Los Angeles Lakers, first director of sport performance psychology for the Los Angeles Clippers, mental health clinician for the Los Angeles Rams and NFL EAP, first African-American senior sport psychologist for the United States Olympic Committee, sport performance psychologist for California State University Northridge athletics, California State University Long Beach athletics and San Diego State University athletics, director of applied sport psychology for University of California Davis, sport psychologist to UCLA Track & Field, California State University Maritime, California State University Fresno women’s basketball program, leadership development coach for the Center for Creative Leadership, contracted psychologist to US Department of Veterans Affairs, psychologist in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and international sport psychology presenter, instructor and mentor. 

 

Dr. Flowers is the author of Introducing Your Child to Sports: An Expert’s Answers to Parents’ Questions about Raising a Healthy, Balanced, Happy Athlete. In the book, Dr. Flowers offers his unique 360 degree perspective - as a noted sport psychologist, former elite athlete and coach, and father of young athletes himself - to answer the 70 most-asked questions of concerned parents contemplating their child's participation in sports.His work has received national attention on television; Good Morning America, NBC, CBS and Fox, in print; Costco Magazine, Sports Illustrated, American Psychological Association Exercise and Sport Psychology, Journal of Clinical Sport Psychology, Journal of Sport Behavior, as well as local features such as the Seattle Times and Sacramento Bee, and numerous podcasts.

 

Dr. Flowers has created sport psychology and mental health programs for USA Olympic teams, national governing bodies of sport, professional basketball teams, universities, and youth programs. He works within the culture of the organization to organically create and successfully integrate mental wellness and performance development services using coaching, mentoring, educational programming, psycho-education, psychotherapy, individual and group consultation, leadership training, team building, capital project requests, research and development.  

 

In his work with professional teams, Dr. Flowers initiates and maintains strong working relationships with players, coaches and staff to enhance well-being and performance, build life skills and career development opportunities, and manage crises. He has created and administered an assessment protocol for draft selection, designed and implemented programming for rookie development and player engagement, and created crisis management protocol and resources.  He also had the opportunity to support player mental health and development in the NFL, and deliver NFL Player Engagement Rookie Programs. 

 

Dr. Flowers was the first African-American senior sport psychologist for the US Olympic Committee serving on many USA World Cup, World Championship and Olympic teams for summer and winter sports. In addition to creating sport psychology programs for national governing bodies of sport and implementing services to teams and individuals, he successfully integrated performance services into the culture of an Olympic Training Center through coaching, mentoring, psycho-education, psychotherapy, individual and group consultation, leadership training, team building, capital project requests, research, written reports, educational programming, and training venue development. 

 

Dr. Flowers started his career in sport performance psychology as the creator and director of the Applied Sport Psychology Program at the University of California, Davis He held positions in Counseling and Psychological Services and the Intercollegiate Athletics Department serving 26 intercollegiate athletic programs, over 800 student-athletes and 121 coaches and staff, as part of the campus population. He also supervised the professional development of psychology doctoral candidates, with emphasis on those specializing in applied sport psychology. 

 

As a leadership development and executive coach, Dr. Flowers administers and interprets assessments, conceptualizes growth opportunities, builds coaching relationships, and provides custom mentor-coaching and leadership development opportunities for business managers and executives. He is a certified assessment suite coach for the Center for Creative Leadership, working with early career managers to executive leadership. His experiences working with an international clientele of government, for-profit and non-profit companies provide Dr. Flowers with a uniquely diverse skill set. Dr. Flowers’s breadth and depth of experiences help him engage diverse issues, and integrate meaningful skills to reach impactful solutions.  

 

Dr. Ross Flowers designs, teaches, and implements skills development programs for culturally diverse individuals, teams and organizations.  

He establishes professional relationships and builds tailored programs to meet the specific needs of each client. He takes pride in being a valuable resource in achieving individual and team goals, and works effectively to teach skills that are essential to performance, so clients can maximize the pleasures of excellence. 

Dr. Flowers’s productivity as a psychologist and in the realm of elite performance enhancement is supported by his background as a Seattle Public Schools Hall of Fame student-athlete, college All-American and elite athlete, NCAA Division 1 and University of Missouri-Kansas City Hall of Fame coach, and consultant to national and international business professionals. He holds a doctorate of philosophy in counseling psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with emphasis in performance and sport psychology, and a bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
